Lawsuit: Old Spice Users Left With Burns, Rashes

Lawsuit: Old Spice Users Left With Burns, Rashes

It’s not the first time that Old Spice has been hit with a lawsuit over their products leaving chemicals burns and rashes on their customers. Earlier this month, another lawsuit was filed against the deodorant company from users having bad reactions. The lawsuit is seeking more that $5 million in damages.

The original suit came from Rodney Colley, who experienced rashes after only a few uses in his armpits. The court’s papers include fairly graphic photos of this painful reaction. Colley is asking others who have had similar reactions to join the lawsuit.

The issue is that the defendant is concealing the problems arising from their products rather than trying to fix anything. Court papers mention that “the problem is rampant” and that Old Spice will only continue to sell the product and reap “windfall profits”. In a very technologically advanced world, the lawsuit even includes pictures that were posted on the internet of others’ who had negative reactions.

A representative from the company noted that a “number of men may experience irritation due to alcohol sensitivity”, which is a common ingredient in many deodorant products, proving once again that you should always read the ingredients before buying the product.

Duck Feathers, Shellac, and Fish Bladders... Oh My!

Do you ever read the label of any packaged food and realize you either don’t know what half the ingredients are or that you can’t even pronounce them for that matter? Most ingredients found in processed foods are used in order to conveniently preserve foods from expiring. Other substances help improve color, smell, and texture.

Especially as a vegetarian or vegan, there are many ingredients to stay away from. L-Cysteine is used in foods to preserve and improve the texture of dough. What if I told you that L-Cysteine is made from hog hair, hog hooves, human hair, or duck feathers? Pillsbury Doughboy is not as cute and innocent as he comes off to be, that’s for sure. Confectioner’s glaze is made of 35 percent shellac. Shellac is also found in hairspray, polish, and aluminum foil. Confectioner’s glaze is a common coat on candy. What a sweet treat! Isinglass is also commonly used to clarify wine and beer. This product is made from fish bladders. Do I have to keep going? Moral of the story is that it is extremely important to understand what you are putting in your body. It is crucial to be mindful and aware of every ingredient. It is so easy to pick up a box of cereal or pre-made mac and cheese without even thinking. It’s convenient and effortless. As delicious as duck feathers, shellac, and fish bladders might be, there is no need to consume these products. The bottom line is, stay away from processed foods.

UFC Champion Goes Vegan

A highly anticipated UFC fight between reining champion Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz left many viewers in total shock after Nate Diaz claimed a surprise victory on Saturday. Conor McGregor has yet to lose a UFC fight and was the clear insider’s favorite to win. However, his young opponent bested him in the second round. Diaz certainly has made a name for himself between winning this huge fight as well as being very outspoken about his vegan diet.

Nate Diaz has been vegan for 12 years and has adhered to a mostly raw vegan diet for the past few years. He says that it gives him a competitive advantage in the ring and that he tries to eat as healthy as possible. The ironic edge to this is that Ido Portal, one of McGregor’s coaches, has said that he believes vegans don’t possess the same stamina and strength as meat eaters. “I’ve never met a vegan who was able to perform with the same energy levels as I see with someone with a more carnivore diet. I actually refuse to work with vegans.” Contrary to this statement, Nate Diaz shows considerable energy, tenacity, and ferocity in the ring, proving the naysayers about veganism wrong once again.

Coffee, Caffeine, and Cancer

Coffee may have earned itself a reputation as being a necessary evil in many of our daily routines, but more and more research is alluding to the fact that coffee has a myriad of impressive health benefits that may just keep you filling up your cup.

It’s no secret that we at Body Karma and Karmasutra love coffee for its numerous topical benefits for your skin. It’s a natural exfoliate, increases blood circulation, has the same PH level as your skin, and help stimulate healthy cell regeneration. However, there are many incredible benefits to drinking coffee frequently, too! Within the last 10 years, research has shown that coffee might be one of the best natural ways to fight chronic conditions and even increasing life longevity.

One of the most interesting and exciting pieces of information to be discovered about coffee is that it has been shown to help fight breast, oral, prostate, liver, and endometrial cancer, along with one of the most common forms of skin cancer- basal cell carcinoma. Coffee is full of polyphenols that are antioxidants that have cancer-fighting properties. The polyphenol compounds can also be found in organic fruits and vegetables as well as green tea, but many people don’t know that coffee is an incredible source of them. However, Joe Vinson, a researcher at the University of Scranton who authored a study on coffee, noted, “Americans get more of their antioxidants from coffee than any other dietary source.”

Although the drinker can feel the immediate effects of coffee, the lasting effects are very positive and can help with a myriad of issues. Research from the European Science Foundations shows that regular coffee drinkers cut down their risk for type-2 diabetes by up to 25%. Similarly, a study published in 2011 in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association has shown that women who drank at least one cup of coffee per day were 20% to 25% less likely to have a stroke than women who drank less. Other studies have demonstrated coffee’s propensity to decrease stroke incidence.

Another study administered by the University of South Florida College of Pharmacy in 2012 analyzed levels of caffeine in patients’ blood over a 2-4 year period. Their findings show that those who drank about 3 cups of coffee per day were significantly less likely to have their dementia progress than those who had less coffee in their system. Other studies in the Journal of the American Medical Association, American Journal of Epidemiology, and Neurology have all proven that coffee can help with mental conditions that usually affect people in late adulthood such as Parkinson’s disease and both short and long-term memory.

There are so many reasons that coffee is incredible for your overall health, especially if you are conscious about the way that you drink it. Make sure to use healthier alternatives if sweetening it such as agave or a nut milk rather than creamers filled with chemicals and fake sweeteners. New alternatives such as cold brewed coffee also offer benefits such as higher caffeine and lower acidity.

Adding coffee to your day can have numerous benefits and provide a sometimes-needed boost of energy. How do you take your coffee?
