Supplements Get New Name "Placebo"

Many people care about their health, but find that it is hard to get all of the supplements and nutrition they need from their food. The only way to get all of the daily nutrition you need is through cold pressed juicing- otherwise you’d be eating mainly raw vegetables and fruit all day in order to get all of the vitamins and minerals you need.

In order to give their health a boost, many people turn to herbal supplements. Common supplements include Echinacea, ginseng, gingko biloba, and so many more. These supplements can help with staying healthy, avoiding sickness, increasing metabolism, etc. However, the lack of regulation over herbal supplements has allowed the general public to be taken advantage of.

In a recent investigation conducted by the FDA, store-brand supplements at four retailers were tested for their ingredients and the results are shocking. The retailers in the investigation were GNC, Target, Wal-Mart, and Walgreens- all huge retail spots that people trust with their health.

The results of the investigation were worse than what most people would expect. Many of the herbs being sold had absolutely nothing in them that was described on the label, and also some included “filler” ingredients that are common allergens such as wheat, soy, rice, pine, garlic, and more. So many people could experience serious allergies and health issues without even knowing what they are putting into their bodies.

Ultimately, it is up to the consumer to decide what kind of products we want to put our money towards and low quality products will continue to be made if we choose to keep purchasing. The first step in looking out for yourself and your own health is to be as informed as you possibly can. Make sure to stay educated on what you are buying and keep as close to natural, organic products as you can.

What do you think? Should regulations be more strict when it comes to herbal supplements?
